1. Introduction
Description
This Breitling electronic movement´s various functions are exceptionally
logical and simple to use. They are selected and called up merely by actioning
the crown.
[image 22-1] Rotate the crown in position 1 to select functions
[image 22-2] Rotate the crown in position 2 [crown pulled out] to correct
functions
Selecting functions
Functions are selected by rotating the crown in position 1 (neutral
position) backward or forward. The various functions appear on the dial
display in 1 to 8 or 8 to 1 order, depending on the direction of rotation.
[image 23-1] 1. Neutral position
[image 23-2] 2. Local time (hr., min., sec.)
[image 23-3] 3. Seconds, and date
[image 23-4] 4. Day and date

[image 23-6] 6. Second timezone: T2
[image 23-7] 7. Chronograph: CHR
[image 23-8] 8. Alarm: AL
2. Correcting Time Information
2.1 12H - 24H display
You can choose between two display modes for the time of day:
-
24H, military style,
-
two 12H periods: a.m. and p.m.
Selecting and correcting:
[image 24-1] Select the T2 (2nd timezone) functions by rotating
the crown.
[image 24-2] press once on the crown: if the letter A or P
is displayed, the time readout is in the 2x12H mode, as for example:
[image 24-3] before noon
[image 24-4] after noon
[image 24-5] Note: When the time readout is in the 2x12H mode, a small
"P" appears next to the hour figure betwenne noon and midnight.
If no letter is visible, the time readout is in the 24H mode, as for
example:
[image 25-1] before noon
[image 25-2] after noon
To change the time display mode, press on the crown twice.
[image 25-3]
2.2 Setting the watch to the correct time
Put the watch in the 24H time readout mode (see point 2.1).
[image 25-4] [rotate the crown] Select and display local time;
NOTE: Hands are not shown at the correct position
[image 25-5] pull the crown out: the hour and the minute digits flash on
and off;
NOTE: Hands are not shown at the correct position
[image 25-6] [rotate the pulled out crown] set the watch to the correct
time by rotating the crown: rapid rotation moves the hands forward or backward
by a full hour while slow rotation moves them in either direction by one
minute;
NOTE: Hands are not shown at the correct position
[image 26-1] push the crown back against the case.
If desired, return the watch to the 2x12H mode (see point
2.1)
2.3 Adjusting the seconds
If the watch looses or gains a few seconds, after some time on the wrist
for instance or following setting operations, it is easily reset to the
exact second:
[image 26-2] [rotate the crown] Select and display local time;
[image 26-3] pull the crown out: the hour and minute digits flash on and
off;
[image 27-1] push the crown back again. The seconds digits flash for 1
minute.
[image 27-2] while the seconds digits flash, push the crown back in precisely
at an observatory time signal or when a reference time source marks the
exact minute: this will return the seconds digits to zero [and the minute
digits to the nearest minute].
Check that the minute display corresponds to the exact time; if it does
not, add or subtract a minute (see point 2.2).
2.4 Correcting the date and the month
Note: The calendar is programmed to provide the exactdate during a full
leap-year cycle of four years, thus requiring a correction every February
29 only.
[image 27-3] [rotate the crown] Select the Seconds & Date function
display; seconds/date
[image 28-1] pull the crown out: next to the date, the seconds digits are
replaced by the month digit(s), with all digits flashing; month / date
[image 28-2] rotate the [pulled out] crown forward or backward: if rotated
rapidly, the month will change; if rotated slowly, the date will change.
[image 28-3] push the crown back in: the seconds digits replace the month.
Leap-year adjustments:
The calendar is programmed to switch automatically from February 28
to March 1; it will therefore have to be adjusted manually every February
29 by moving the date back by one day, from March 1 to February 29.
Please note: Although the watch does not normally display the
month, the latter must of course be correctly set to enable the pertual
calendar to function normally.
2.5 Correcting the day
[image 29-1] [rotate the crown] Select the Day & Date function display;
day / date
[image 29-2] pull the crown out: the date is replaced by a letter corresponding
to the language in which the name of the day can be displayed: E for English,
F for French, D for German, S for Spanish, while the day indication flashes;
rotate the crown forward or backward to set the exact day in the language
desired.
[image 29-3] rotate the [pulled out] crown forward or backward to set the
exact day in the language desired
[image 29-4] push the crown back in: the date replaces the letter.
2.6 Synchronizing the analog and digital time displays
After a battery replacement or, exceptionally, a manipulation error, it
may be necessary to synchronize the time shown by the hands with that displayed
by the digital readout.
[image 30-1] [rotate the crown] Select the neutral position
[image 30-2] pull the crown out: the digitally displayed time is not the
same as the time shown by the hands;
[image 30-3] rotate the [pulled out] crown backward or forward until the
hands show exactly the same time as the display (rapid rotation of the
crown will cause the haands to move in either direction by a complete hour);
NOTE: Hands are not shown at the correct position
[image 30-4] push the crown back in;
NOTE: Hands are not shown at the correct position
[image 31-1] return the watch to the display of local time and reset the
hands precisely (see point 2.2).
NOTE: Hands are not shown at the correct position
2.7 Changing timezones / to or from summer time
When travelling to another timezone or adjusting the watch to or from summer
(daylight saving) time, the hands can be moved forward or backward by one
or more complete hours without affecting the indication of the minutes
and seconds.
[image 31-2] [rotate the crown] Select and display local time;
NOTE: Hands are not shown at the correct position
[image 31-3] pull the crown out: the hour and minute digits will flash;
NOTE: Hands are not shown at the correct position
[image 31-4] rotate the [pulled out] crown backward or forward quickly,
causing the hands to move in either direction by a full hour with each
rotation;
NOTE: Hands are not shown at the correct position
[image 32-1] push the crown back in.
NOTE: Hands are not shown at the correct position
Please remember not to rotate the crown slowly after rotating it rapidly
to change timezones.
3. How to use the various functions
3.1 Using the countdown timer
[image 32-2] [rotate the crown] Select the Timer (TM) function;
[image 32-3] pull the crown out: the hours and minutes will flash;
[image 33-1] set the desired time span by rotating the [pulled out] crown
forward or backward (rapid rotation changes the hour readout, slow rotation
changes the minute readout);
[image 33-2] push the crown back in: counting down begins and the watch
will buzz at the end of the pre-set time span;
[image 33-3] press on the crown to end the buzzing.
To cancel an ongoing countdown operation:
[image 33-4] [rotate the crown] select the Timer (TM) function;
[image 33-5] press on the crown during more than two seconds; the timer
will return to zero.
3.2 Displaying a second timezone
This watch is designed to display, if desired, another timezone in addition
to local time.
[image 34-1] [rotate the crown] Select the Second Timezone (T2)
function;
[image 34-2] pull the crown out; the digits corresponding to the 2nd timezone
begin flashing;
[image 34-3] rotate the [pulled out] crown forward or backward;
[image 34-4] push the crown back in.
Note: the minute and the seconds readouts cannot be changed and always
remain on local time.
Remember to take into account the watch's time mode (2x12H or 24H) when
selecting and displaying a second timezone (see point 2.1).
3.3 Using the chronograph
[image 35-1] [rotate the crown] Select the Chronograph (CHR) function;
[image 35-2] press on the crown to start the chronograph;
[image 35-3] press the crown again to stop the chronograph;
[image 35-4] a further press on the crown will restart the chronograph,
allowing a series of short times to be measured and added together;
[image 36-1] return the chronograph to zero by pressing on the crown for
more than two seconds.
While the chronograph is in use, any other function of the watch can
be selected and used. However, the watch must be returned to the chronograph
(CHR) mode for stopping and reading chronograph times and returning
this function to zero.
The chronograph mechanism will stop automatically after 48 hours. Times
shorter than 1 hour are expressed in minutes, seconds and hundredths of
a second. Times longer than 1 hour are measured in hours, minutes and seconds.
[image 36-2] 28 min. 35.10 sec.
[image 36-3] 14 hrs. 18 min. 15 sec.
3.4 Using the alarm function
[image 37-1] [rotate the crown] Select the Alarm (AL) function;
[image 37-2] pull the crown out: the digits will flash;
[image 37-3] display the desired alarm time by rotating the [pulled out]
crown forward or backward (rapid rotation changes the hour readout, slow
rotation changes the minute readout);
[image 37-4] push the crown back in: "AL" appears, confirming that the
alarm function is running;
[image 37-5] when the alarm sounds, press on the crown to end the buzzing.
NOTE: Hands are not shown at the correct position
To set or reset the alarm, press on the crown after selecting the alarm
(AL) function.
[image 38-1] [press crown once] AL displayed: alarm on
[image 38-2] [press crown once] OF displayed: alarm off
[image 38-3] To test the alarm function, press on the crown during more
than two seconds after selecting the alarm (AL) function: the buzzer
will sound.
Note: remember to take into account the watch's time mode (2x12H or
24H) when setting the alarm to the desired time (see point
2.1).
3.5 Minute repeater
The minute repeater is a device that provides a sonic indication of the
hours and minutes simply by pressing on the crown when the latter is in
the neutral, local-time, seconds-date or day-date position.
Four different sonic sound codes correspond respectively to:
-
hours ---
-
quarter hours * *
-
5 minutes . . . . .
-
minutes .
[image 39-1]
1 hr 16 min. = --- * * . = 1 hr + 1 quarter hour + 1 min.
NOTE: Hands are not shown at the correct position
[image 39-2]
15 hrs 42 min. = --- --- --- * * * * . . . . . . . . . . . . = 3 hrs
+ 2 quarter hours + 2 x 5 min. + 2 min.
NOTE: Hands are not shown at the correct position
3.6 Important remarks
This watch's movement includes a battery end-of-life (EOL) warning system,
